So today we've released a new W3C-compliant, CSS-based Umbraco template based on an original HTML/CSS design from the good guys at StyleShout.com.

Jungleland v1.0 is a really beautiful design template using earthy tones and a really attractive layout.  To make use of Jungleland for Runway ou'll need to have Umbraco 4 installed, with the Runway and Runway Top Navigation packages installed.  More instructions can be found on our homepage.

Jungleland v1.0 for Runway is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License, which means that you can use the template for free on your site, as long as your attribute the work to StyleShout.com and to Orcare Limited with links back to both sites.

This is the first template we've sliced up and packaged since seeing Doug Robar's presentation at CodeGarden '09 on Things he wished he knew when starting with Umbraco.  A great suggestion that Doug made is that images in CSS don't belong in the Media library, instead they should be referenced from a directory on your site.  This prevents site editors from breaking the CSS templates by deleting items from the Media Library.  But we've found it seriously reduces the effort involved in slicing and dicing design templates.  No longer do we need to upload all the images to the library then edit all the css to point to new unique URLs in the Media section.

So with that in mind, hopefully you'll see more templates from us soon.

New Runway Design Templates Releasedhttp://www.freeumbracotemplates.co.uk//news--events/new-runway-design-templates-released.aspx@updateDatehttp://www.freeumbracotemplates.co.uk//news--events/new-runway-design-templates-released.aspxToday Orcare Limited have published three new design templates for Umbraco, and Open Source Content Management System based on Microsoft technologies.  These design templates are available free to download under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License

The design templates are based on designs produced by styleshout.com, and have been packaged by Orcare to work with the new Runway feature in Umbraco version 4.  Runway is a bare bones website structure which can be used to build a best-practice Umbraco website.  The free templates from Orcare simply overlay the Runway components.

The new design templates can be previewed and downloaded for free on the freeumbracotemplates.co.uk website.

Umbraco 4 Releasedhttp://www.freeumbracotemplates.co.uk//news--events/umbraco-4-released.aspx@updateDatehttp://www.freeumbracotemplates.co.uk//news--events/umbraco-4-released.aspxWe're pleased to say that the guys over at the Umbraco Core Team have released the first production edition of Version 4, and by golly it's a belter.  There are many great enhancements in this release which appeal to designers, developers and administrators.  But two big changes affect freeumbracotemplates.co.uk, Master Pages and Runway.

Niels and the team have undertaken open heart surgery on the templating engine in version 4.  Umbraco now uses ASP.Net Master Pages, rather than the template engine that was found in Umbraco 2 and 3. This has necesitated changes to our existing templates to be compatible.

The second major v4 feature is the new Runway Package.  Runway is a real barebones website package, which makes it easy to develop a best-practice Umbraco site.  There are also several Runway Packages which can be installed to extend the base Runway package.  We've made sure our templates work with the Runway Standard Top Navigation package, but expect to see us incorporate templates for some of the other Runway Packages.

We're not quite there with the version 4 compatible templates, but rest assured we'll post them here as soon as they're built, tested and ready.
